WINNER IS; ANG
Born in Ireland, Lavinia, a bedraggled white girl is sent to a tobacco plantation in Southern Virginia as an indentured servant. It is there that she meets Belle, the illegitimate daughter of the Master, who is assigned to take care of her.
Lavinia works in the kitchen house, along with several plantation slaves. It is here that she finds friends and people who care about her for perhaps the first time.
The novel is narrated alternately by Lavinia and Belle. These narrations bring us very close to the dangers and horror of their world. They seemed to always be looking over their shoulders, because threats of punishment lurked everywhere.
What you are left with after reading this book is a deep respect for the love and loyalty expressed by a handful of wonderful people who Lavinia holds dear.
That is what I carried away from this book when I sadly had to close it at the end.
Excellent for book clubs, including my own. It will grip all readers and conversations are inevitable.
About the author
Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Kathleen Grissom is now happily rooted in south-side Virginia, where she and her husband live in the plantation tavern they renovated. The Kitchen House is her first novel.

This sounds like an amazing coming of age book book. Although I am not a great fan of narrated books. I have read a few that were interesting and the naration actually is what created the feel of the book such as in Lovely Bones. This was a great review and I enjoyed it. Keep up the good work.
